The iron ore price has increased in 2020 reaching more than US$120 a tonne despite the global economic downturn due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The iron ore price increase is the consequence of continuing supply interruptions in Brazil and strong demand in China. Australian export volumes are expected to grow from 860 million tonnes in 2019\u201320 (A$102 billion) to 905 million tonnes by 2021\u201322. To sustain this level of production, it is vital that new resources are discovered, properly characterised, and beneficiated.
